Terms and conditions of the au-pair program

If you have decided to work in the Netherlands you may be surprised by the fact that Dutchman are the tallest nation in the world but there is something else - fluent English (about 90% of families requires English speaking au-pair). The reason is that 86% of Dutchman speak English as their second language and children starts speaking English since they are five.

To be included in the program it is necessary to meet the basic conditions:

  • You must be at least 18 years old,
  • English or Dutch at Intermediate level,
  • Practical experience and positive attitude to children (some families require references   available in English or French),
  • Good health, extract from criminal records,
  • Responsibility, independence and flexibility,
  • Driving licence is an advantage.

Wage and working conditions

  • Working hours aprox. 30 hours per week (hours are agreed in advance and depends on needs of your host family).
  • Pocket money - the amount of money depends on agreement (one of the factors is also lenght of the stay) - minimum allowance is 450 € per month,
  • At least 1 day off per week (depending on needs of your host family),
  • Health insurance FOR FREE,
  • Accommodation and meals FOR FREE,
  • During one year stay - two weeks paid leave.

Job description:

  • Childcare - depends on lifestyle and other specifics of your host family. For example it includes accompanying children to the kindergarten/school, afternoon leisure time activities, hygiene and preparation for school,
  • Simple house work to keep household clean - vacuuming, washing, ironing and food preparation,
  • "Babysitting" – watch the children in the evening or during weekends (depends on needs of your host family aprox. 2-3 times per week).
